Thematic Exhibition

A philately exhibition shall always have other points of interest to attract the ranks of non-philatelists and help them deepen their understanding of the great world of Philately.

In 2010, the Portuguese Republic celebrates its 100th anniversary, and the Organising Committee of PORTUGAL 2010 has reserved an area inside the World Philatelic Exposition for a major exhibition dedicated to the 1st Portuguese Republic. The exhibition will draw a picture of the romantic yet violent times of the 1st Republic, itself rich in historic events. The visitors will receive a range of brochures on the history of the 1st Republic, from its proclamation on 5th October 1910 to the institutions, political events and social mores of the time. A number of public and private entities will be providing vital support with a wide range of invaluable contributions, making it one of the finest exhibitions on this topic in Portugal. The fifth of October, the Republic’s Institutions, the Great War, the Northern Monarchy, major figures from the Republic, the lay missions, the crossing of the South Atlantic, the railways, cars and costumes, the post office, economic activities, money, newsreels from the time, photographs, newspapers and a plethora of other items will help to recreate the 1st Portuguese Republic, a world that is still unknown to many.

In addition, a series of presentations on the Republic and its highlights will be held on 2nd, 3rd and 4th October. On 5th October, a formal session will recollect and celebrate the date that is so emblematic in our long history as a nation and as a country - the fifth of October of 1910.
