CTT – Correios de Portugal (Portuguese Mail), in partnership with the Portuguese Philately Federation, has assumed the responsibility of sponsoring and organising a world philately exhibition in 2010, to take place in October, in Lisbon.

The year 2010 could not have been more appropriate, since the 100 years of the republican regime in Portugal are celebrated; this historical event occurred on the 5th October 1910, when one of the oldest European monarchies was deposed.

A monarchy that goes back to 1143, having governed a mainland country that has remained practically unaltered up to the present, from its foundation to independence. The monarchy lived times of glory, as well as times of suffering, having run its course and given way to a new regime.

The sufferings and glories of Portuguese History are recalled in stamps issued by CTT’s Philately, justly considered as one among the best, not only for the beauty and quality of the stamps issued, but also for their contribution to divulging some of the main events occurred in Portugal and the World.

Until 2010, CTT will divulge every step of the World Philately Exhibition events and stamp issue programme, while joyfully awaiting the seventy-four countries whose pres- ence has already been confirmed.
